We are completely smitten with My Neighbor Totoro which has quickly become one of my favorite feature films of all time. Dylan is amazingly engaged by it (for at least 30 minutes more or less - and that's a very long time!). His favorite parts - the soot sprites and Satsuki getting firewood when the wind picks up her sticks - he anticipates the scenes, feigning fear as he runs and laughs to whoever's near by to hold him and watch with him; he loves it when the kids stick out their tongues; he loves the bath scene when they all start laughing to scare the spirits away; he loves immitating the laundry scene; and he simply clamors for the DVD to be put on when I start singing the theme song, and everytime I put it on to play, I of course, watch with him. Thanks to Dean who mentioned it on his blog so I just had to check it out. It's a wonderful gem of a film - there's values, there's lessons, there's everything a children's story should have, and the story itself is very endearing to both children and adults. This one, we will be watching for a long time to come.
